Comida Mexicana

One of the great things about staying with a Mexican family is eating home cooked Mexican meals. Yesterday Ryan, myself, and two other houseguests helped our “mom” Coco prepare la comida. She was delighted with all the help but even so, it took three hours. Steph washed pumpkin flowers and chopped veggies while the guys peeled the skin off chiles. The final product was arroz, chiles relleno, cebollas relleno, and flores relleno. In English, this tastes like rice, chiles, onions, and flowers from a pumpkin that were stuffed with a mixture of chicken and vegetables. This was our first experience with flores de calabaza (pumpkin flowers) and it was excellent. Not every meal is so labor intensive; in fact, Coco said she won’t make this meal by herself and when it is made, it will be eaten for two days. This is true becuase lunch today was the same as yesterday. Que rico!
