After our trip through the Canyon we took a series of colectivas to the Zoo in Tuxtla Guttirez (the capital). For only 20 pesos ($2) we saw many types of tropical birds, big cats, lizards, and other (rather strange) animals unique to this part of Mexico. The design of the zoo is different than we've seen before...it was like walking through the jungle with streams running under the pathways and several rodents and birds roaming freely. We ate a wonderful and well priced lunch at the zoo and then explored the city by foot. The funniest part of the day was Stephanie getting used to the mix of the humid climate and a lot of uphill walking in the sun. Her face turned as red as a tomato which caused us to further stick out as gringos in a city full of dark skinned Mexicans. Nimodo. We found an airconditioned theatre and cooled off watching Open Season in Spanish.
